The Employment Ordinance has 15 statutory holidays: choose “Statutory holidays” above the calendar.

When is Lunar New Year 2026?

Lunar New Year's Day is Tuesday 17 February 2026, the Year of the Horse. The public holidays are Lunar New Year's Day (Tuesday 17 February), The second day of Lunar New Year (Wednesday 18 February) and The third day of Lunar New Year (Thursday 19 February).

Is Good Friday 2026 a statutory holiday?

Good Friday (Friday 3 April) and the day following Good Friday are public holidays (banks, schools and government offices close) but not statutory holidays. The statutory holiday at Easter is Easter Monday (Monday 6 April).

Which public holidays fall on a Saturday in 2026?

The day following Good Friday (Saturday 4 April), The day following the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival (Saturday 26 September) and The first weekday after Christmas Day (Saturday 26 December). No other day is given for a public holiday on a Saturday; only a Sunday holiday moves to the next day.

What is the difference between public holidays and statutory holidays?

Public holidays (general holidays, 17 days) are the days off of banks, schools and government offices. Statutory holidays (15 days) are the holidays every employee is entitled to under the Employment Ordinance. In 2026 only the public holidays include Good Friday (Friday 3 April) and The day following Good Friday (Saturday 4 April). Christmas Day is a public holiday; for statutory holidays the employer chooses the Chinese Winter Solstice Festival or Christmas Day.

What if a statutory holiday falls on a Sunday rest day?

The Labour Department: if a statutory holiday falls on a rest day, a holiday is granted on the day following the rest day which is not a statutory holiday, an alternative or substituted holiday or a rest day. In 2026, for employees whose rest day is Sunday: Ching Ming Festival → Tuesday 7 April, The Birthday of the Buddha → Monday 25 May and Chung Yeung Festival → Monday 19 October.

Do foreign domestic helpers get the public holidays?

Foreign domestic helpers are entitled to rest days, the 15 statutory holidays and paid annual leave under the Employment Ordinance and the Standard Employment Contract (Labour Department). The other public holidays (for example Good Friday) are days off only if the employer agrees. An employer who needs a helper to work on a statutory holiday must give at least 48 hours’ notice and an alternative holiday within 60 days; paying instead of the holiday is not allowed.

Can I print the 2026 calendar?

Yes. Free A4 PDFs for the public holidays and the statutory holidays: a year calendar (landscape with a Sunday or Monday start, and portrait) and a monthly calendar, with every holiday written in full; a set with the lunar dates too.

Sources and method

All sources checked 20 October 2026.

Holiday dates come from GovHK (general holidays), the 1823 holiday calendar file and the Labour Department (statutory holidays); the lunar dates and solar terms from the Hong Kong Observatory’s conversion tables. The layout, the PDFs, the working days and the leave plans are made by ToolNeko: this is not a government publication.

Working days: Monday to Friday minus the holidays of the view that fall on a weekday. Statutory holidays: the employer chooses the Chinese Winter Solstice Festival or Christmas Day, counted once; working days and leave plans use the earlier day. A statutory holiday on a Sunday gives employees whose rest day is Sunday a day off on the next day that is not a statutory holiday or a rest day (counted on this page). Long weekends and leave plans assume Saturday and Sunday off.

Lunar dates and solar terms in Hong Kong time (Hong Kong Observatory). Lunar New Year's Day 2026: Tuesday 17 February 2026.
