Steps to miles formula
Miles = steps × step length in inches ÷ 63,360. The calculator first converts feet or centimeters to inches, then reports miles, feet, and kilometers from the same total distance. It treats all inputs as manual estimates and does not infer a step length from height, sex, age, pace, or device data.

Calibrate with more than one walk
A measured mile counted at 2,000 steps produces 31.68 inches per step. If you record several walks, this page adds their distances and step counts before dividing. For example, 0.5 mile over 1,000 steps plus 1 mile over 2,500 steps gives 1.5 miles ÷ 3,500 steps, or about 27.154286 inches per step.
Why not average each sample's step length?
A plain average gives a short sample the same influence as a long one. Combining totals weights every counted step equally. Check that each row uses the correct distance unit and that the step counter covers the same start and end points as the measured route.
Estimate limits
Step length changes with pace, terrain, fatigue, footwear, measurement method, and the device's counting rules. Calibration can better match the measured walks you enter, but it does not certify a route distance or calculate exercise, calorie, or medical targets.

How do I convert steps to miles?
Multiply the number of steps by step length in inches, then divide by 63,360 inches per mile. Because step length varies, the result is an estimate unless you calibrate it from a measured walk.
How many miles are 10,000 steps?
At 30 inches per step, 10,000 steps are approximately 4.73485 miles. A shorter or longer measured step length changes the result, so enter your own value instead of treating one answer as universal.
Is step length the same as stride length?
Terminology varies. This calculator uses step length for the distance from one footfall to the next. A full same-foot-to-same-foot stride is commonly two steps, so do not enter that doubled distance unless your source defines it per step.
How does measured-walk calibration work?
Enter each known distance and its counted steps. The tool adds all distances, adds all steps, then divides total distance by total steps. It does not average separate step-length estimates, which could overweight a short sample.
Does this read my phone or health data?
No. It uses only the numbers you type and performs the estimate locally in your browser. It does not access GPS, motion sensors, or health records.
