How to type a star rating like ★★★★☆
A five-star rating uses solid stars ★ (U+2605) for the points earned and outline stars ☆ (U+2606) for the rest, so four out of five is ★★★★☆.
- Pick the score out of five, such as 4.
- Copy a ready-made row from Rating rows, or copy ★ once for each point.
- Fill the rest of the five places with outline stars ☆.
- For a half star, ⯪ (U+2BEA, star with left half black) exists, but many fonts don't have it yet. Preview it, or write the score as 3.5/5 next to the stars.
How to type star symbols on Windows, Mac and phones
Windows 10 or 11: press Windows key + . (period) and search for star to get ⭐, or open the Symbols tab in the same panel for text symbols. In Word for Windows, type 2605 and press Alt + X to get ★.
Mac: choose Edit > Emoji & Symbols (or press Fn/Globe + E), expand the viewer and search for star. Phone keyboards have star emoji such as ⭐ and ✨. Some Android keyboards also show ★ when you long-press the * key, but most text stars, such as ☆ ✦ ✩, aren't on the keyboard, so copy them from this page.

💫 Dizzy is often used for feeling dizzy or dreamy. 🌠 Shooting star often goes with making a wish or night-sky posts. Meanings shift with context, so read them with the words around them.
Why a star shows up as a box
Common stars such as ★ ☆ ✦ ✧ work almost everywhere. Some multi-point stars, the Slavonic asterisk ꙳ and the half star ⯪ need fonts with wider symbol coverage and may appear as an empty box.
