MST to EST: the usual two-hour answer
During standard time, add two hours: 9:00 AM MST is 11:00 AM EST. Denver normally keeps the same two-hour regional difference in summer because MDT and EDT advance together.
Why some results say three hours
Arizona remains on MST while New York moves to EDT. In that season, 9:00 AM MST in Phoenix is 12:00 PM EDT—three hours later. The route selector prevents “MST” from silently assuming the wrong Mountain region.
Specific suffixes resolve repeated times
On Denver's fall-back date, 1:30 AM occurs once as MDT and again as MST. Entering the specific suffix chooses that occurrence. A generic MT input chooses the earlier one and labels the assumption. Because Eastern and Mountain clocks change at different UTC moments, their gap can also be briefly one or three hours on transition day.
