Date-aware America/Chicago and America/New_York conversion. “CST” and “EST” are checked against the actual daylight-saving abbreviation for that date.

CST to EST conversion

For standard time, add one hour to CST to get EST. 8:00 AM CST becomes 9:00 AM EST. The same one-hour regional difference normally holds when both locations observe daylight saving time: 8:00 AM CDT becomes 9:00 AM EDT.

CST, CDT, EST, and EDT are not interchangeable

CST and EST are fixed standard-time labels; CDT and EDT are daylight-time labels. Many searches use “CST to EST” as shorthand for Central Time to Eastern Time. The calculator uses the selected date and the IANA America/Chicago and America/New_York zones, then warns when a typed suffix conflicts with the date.

Convert a meeting list at once

Paste up to 50 clock times instead of moving a single slider repeatedly. Every row keeps its original input, full source and target date, actual abbreviations, offset, and any daylight-saving warning, so the copied receipt can be checked later.

Daylight-saving edge cases

During the spring transition, some local Central times do not exist. During the fall transition, some occur twice; this tool uses the earlier occurrence and labels it. Historical and future rule changes depend on the time-zone data shipped with the visitor's browser.

Frequently asked questions

What is the time difference from CST to EST?

Central Standard Time is one hour behind Eastern Standard Time. 9:00 AM CST is 10:00 AM EST. On dates when both regions observe daylight saving time, CDT is likewise one hour behind EDT.

Why does the converter ask for a date?

The date lets the browser apply the daylight-saving rules for America/Chicago and America/New_York and label the result CST/CDT and EST/EDT correctly.

Can CST and EDT ever be two hours apart?

A literal fixed CST offset is two hours behind EDT, but people often write CST when they mean Central Time generally. This tool treats the selected location as America/Chicago and warns when the typed standard or daylight abbreviation does not match the date.

Can I convert several Central times at once?

Yes. Paste up to 50 times, one per line. Each row is converted independently, and invalid or nonexistent daylight-saving times stay visible.

Which places does this conversion represent?

The calculation uses America/Chicago for U.S. Central Time and America/New_York for U.S. Eastern Time. Other countries may use the same abbreviations with different rules.
