Hourly to annual salary formula
Annual gross = hourly rate × paid hours per week × paid weeks per year. With the default assumptions, 40 × 52 gives 2,080 paid hours. An hourly rate of $25 therefore gives $1,000 per paid week, $4,333.33 per average month, and $52,000 per year.
The reverse formula is hourly gross = annual salary ÷ annual paid hours. A $52,000 annual salary divided by 2,080 hours returns $25 per hour. The calculator retains exact rational values through every step and rounds displayed currency half up to cents.
Paid weeks and fractional schedules
Paid hours and weeks are assumptions, not claims about your employment agreement. For example, $30 per hour × 37.5 hours × 50 paid weeks gives 1,875 annual paid hours, $1,125 per paid week, $4,687.50 per average month, and $56,250 per year.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics uses 2,080 hours as a standard work-year convention for many hourly and annual wage conversions, while noting cases where the convention is inappropriate. That is why 40 and 52 are editable defaults here.
Gross straight-time boundary
This page calculates gross, pre-tax straight-time equivalence. It does not estimate tax or withholding, take-home pay, overtime premiums or legal regular rate, state or city wage rules, bonuses, commissions, tips, benefits, live exchange rates, paycheck dates, or employment advice.
U.S. Department of Labor guidance explains that covered nonexempt workers generally receive overtime after 40 hours in a workweek and that regular-rate calculations depend on actual compensation and hours. Its Hours Worked Advisor also explains that paid holidays, vacation, and sick time are not necessarily hours worked for federal overtime purposes. Enter your own paid schedule here and use those official sources for the separate legal boundaries.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert hourly pay to annual salary?
Multiply the gross hourly rate by paid hours per week and paid weeks per year. At the editable 40-hour, 52-week convention, $25 per hour equals $52,000 gross per year.
How does Salary to Hourly work?
The calculator divides gross annual salary by paid hours per week times paid weeks per year. It uses the exact unrounded values before displaying currency rounded half up to cents.
Why is monthly pay an average?
The calculator divides annual gross by 12. Calendar months do not contain equal numbers of workdays or workweeks, so the monthly number is an annual average rather than a paycheck schedule.
Does this include taxes or overtime?
No. The result is gross, pre-tax straight-time equivalence. It does not calculate withholding, overtime premiums, bonuses, commissions, tips, benefits, or paid-time-off treatment.
Is 2,080 hours always one work year?
No. The Bureau of Labor Statistics uses 2,080 hours as a standard annualization convention in many wage estimates. This calculator keeps both weekly hours and paid weeks editable because schedules differ.
