When is Hanukkah in 2026?
Hanukkah (also spelled Chanukah) begins on the evening of Friday, December 4, 2026, when the first candle is lit. The eighth candle is lit on Friday, December 11, and the holiday ends at nightfall on Saturday, December 12.
Why does the menorah have nine candles?
A Hanukkah menorah holds one candle for each of the eight nights, plus a helper candle called the shamash that lights the others. The shamash stands apart from the other eight, at a different height and often in the middle. Each night one more candle is lit, until all nine glow on the last night.
Can I send a Happy Hanukkah picture if I’m not Jewish?
Yes. A friendly Happy Hanukkah is a kind way to greet Jewish friends, neighbors and coworkers. For work, tap Coworkers: those pictures keep it simple and warm, with no jokes.
