Discount Calculator

Get the price first. Switch to Shopping cart only when discounts, coupons, and tax stack together.

Discount formula

Sale price = original price × (1 − discount percentage ÷ 100). Savings = original price − sale price. To reverse the calculation, divide the sale price by one minus the discount rate.

One product or a whole cart

Single item mode solves the common two-value questions without extra controls. Shopping cart mode keeps each item's quantity and discount separate, then applies an optional order coupon and tax. It reports the original subtotal, pre-tax result, final total, and effective discount.

Why compare coupon order?

A fixed coupon applied after item discounts does not always produce the same price as a coupon allocated before those discounts. Percentage coupons can also differ when the item discounts are applied to a reduced base. This page calculates both sequences and labels the alternate total.

Checkout rules still win

Stores may exclude products, cap savings, require a minimum purchase, round each line, or calculate tax under local rules. The calculator uses the exact values and order you select, but the retailer's checkout is the final source of truth.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate a 10% discount?

Multiply the original price by 0.10 to find the savings, then subtract it. A $45 item saves $4.50 and costs $40.50.

Can I find the original price before a discount?

Yes. Choose Original price, then enter the sale price and discount percent. The calculator divides the sale price by one minus the discount rate.

Does coupon order change the total?

It can. A store may apply an order coupon before or after item-level discounts. The cart mode calculates both orders and shows the difference instead of assuming one rule.

How is the effective total discount calculated?

It is the original cart subtotal minus the pre-tax discounted subtotal, divided by the original subtotal. Tax is shown separately.

Does this include every retailer's coupon rules?

No. Exclusions, minimum spends, category restrictions, maximum discounts, rounding, and tax rules vary. Use the result as a comparison and confirm the checkout total.
