How to play a charades game with this generator
Split into two teams. The actor draws a prompt, hides it from the guessers, and acts it out without a sound while the timer runs. Their team calls out guesses; when someone gets it, the actor selects Correct for a point and the next prompt. Stuck? Pass moves on without a point. When time's up, hand the device to the other team. Act everything out in place: no climbing on furniture, even for “climb a ladder” or “walk a tightrope.”
Passing the device
Use Hide prompt before you pass the phone or laptop to the next actor, then Show once only they can see the screen. Hiding only removes the words from the page. Anyone who opens the browser's developer tools or a saved file can still see the prompt, so it's a courtesy, not a lock.
No repeats until you say so
Each draw picks fairly from the prompts that match your filters and haven't come up yet, using your browser's secure random numbers. Drawn prompts stay out for the rest of the session even if you switch categories. The counter shows how many match and how many are left, and a filter that runs out tells you so instead of quietly repeating.
Charades vs. Pictionary-style drawing games
These prompts are chosen to be acted with your body, like “brush your teeth” or “walk a tightrope.” For a drawing game, the Pictionary Word Generator has words picked for sketching instead.
Privacy
Prompts, the timer and the score live only in this browser tab. Nothing you draw is saved by this page or added to the address. This tool's interaction events may include a fixed action name, the selected category and difficulty, and a broad range for how many prompts match; they never include prompt text or prompt IDs. As described in our privacy policy, Google Analytics and site infrastructure may also receive the page URL and general technical data such as IP address, time, browser or device information, and approximate location. Copying or saving a prompt is handled in your browser only when you choose it. See our disclaimer.
Frequently asked questions
How do you play charades?
One person draws a prompt and acts it out silently while their team guesses. No talking, mouthing words, spelling, pointing at objects in the room or drawing. Many groups hold up fingers for the number of words and tap their arm for syllables, but agree on your own signals before you start.
Will I get the same prompt twice?
Not in the same session. Every prompt you draw is set aside, even if you change the category or difficulty. When a filter runs out you'll see that all its prompts have been used; Reset prompts lets every one of the 156 prompts come up again. Refreshing or closing the page also starts over.
Are the prompts family-safe?
Yes. All 156 prompts were written for this tool and reviewed one by one for silent actability, everyday US English and family suitability, with nothing violent, gory or unsafe to act out. You still know your group best, so skip anything that doesn't suit it.
How do the categories and difficulty levels work?
There are four categories (Animals, Actions, Everyday Objects, and Scenes & Events) and three levels. Easy prompts are familiar animals, objects, single actions and simple scenes; Medium ones need a less obvious action or a two-step scene; Hard ones call for more expressive acting but stay realistic, with no obscure names.
How does the timed round work?
Pick a round length from 30 to 180 seconds and start. Correct adds a point and draws the next prompt; Pass skips to the next prompt without a point. The timer pauses if you switch tabs or change the filters, and the score freezes when time runs out. Everything stays in this browser tab.
