How the tip and split are calculated
Enter the bill before any new tip, including sales tax if it is on the bill. Choose your tip percentage and the number of people. The result updates as you type. All amounts on this page are US dollars, not converted currencies.
Tip = tip base × percentage ÷ 100. By default the base is the full bill. With the before-tax option, the base is the bill minus the entered tax. That tax is already included: we never add it a second time. The total is the original bill plus the calculated tip.
Money is calculated in integer cents. We round the tip once to the nearest cent, with half a cent rounded up, then divide the final total. Any remaining cents go one at a time to that many people. The displayed shares differ by no more than one cent and always sum to the displayed total. Decide within your group who takes each share.

Copy a breakdown that reconciles
Copy breakdown includes the bill, the chosen tip base and percentage, the tip amount, the total and the exact share counts. For an uneven split, it includes both amounts instead of suggesting everyone pay a rounded average that leaves the bill short or overpaid.
Supported inputs: bills from $0 to $1,000,000, money and percentages with up to two decimal places, tip rates from 0% to 100%, and 1–100 people. Tax cannot exceed the bill. This is an equal-share arithmetic tool, not a payment service or a guide to tipping customs. Your bill amounts are calculated locally and are not sent as analytics values.

How do I calculate a tip?
Multiply the amount you want to tip on by your chosen percentage, then divide by 100. A 20% tip on an $80 bill is $16, making the total $96. This tool starts at 20% as an editable example, not a recommendation.
How do I split the bill evenly?
Add the rounded tip to the bill, then divide that total by the number of people. When the total cannot divide evenly into cents, some people pay one cent more. For a $100 total split three ways, one person pays $33.34 and two pay $33.33.
Can I calculate the tip before tax?
Yes. Open Before-tax tip option and enter the sales tax already included in your bill. For a $108 bill containing $8 tax, a 20% before-tax tip is $20 and the total is $128. Without that option, 20% of the full $108 is $21.60.
What if a tip or service charge is already included?
This calculator adds the percentage you enter as a new tip. Read your bill first. Choose 0% if you only want to split the existing total without adding another tip. It does not decide whether any extra tip is appropriate.
Does this split each person's individual items?
No. It shares one bill and one chosen tip across the number of people entered, as evenly as whole cents allow. Copy breakdown gives you a plain-text summary to paste into a group chat; it does not request or transfer money.
