Reaction Time Test
Wait for green. React. Get five valid rounds.
Wait for green and “GO”, then click or tap this panel. Changing input resets the test.
Stay on this tab. Early clicks and interrupted rounds are not scores. Device and display latency affect results; this is not a medical assessment.
Keep interruptions out of your result
Five valid rounds make one test. Responding before GO is a false start, not a fast score. Leaving the tab or moving focus away during a round cancels it. Those rounds are counted separately and do not enter the median, average or best time. A ready round expires after 10 seconds; that limit is an inactivity cutoff, not a judgment of ability.
Choose one input method for the whole test
Mouse / touch records the initial press or tap. Space / Enter records a key press while the panel has focus. Changing the choice starts a new test. Every recorded round labels its input method, so a copied summary retains the testing conditions.
Read the summary, not just your fastest tap
For example, valid times of 220, 230, 240, 260 and 400 milliseconds have a median of 240 ms, an average of 270 ms and a best time of 220 ms. The slowest round affects the average, while the median shows the middle result. These are illustrative numbers, not a population benchmark.
What the browser can and cannot measure
The tool uses the browser's monotonic performance clock to measure elapsed time between the GO update and your input event. Its clock does not depend on adjustments to the calendar time. Display refresh, input hardware, browser scheduling and timer precision still affect the measured duration.
Scores are rounded to whole milliseconds for display. This is an informal visual response game, not a diagnosis, fitness assessment or proof of driving safety. Keep the same device and input method when comparing your own sessions. All test data stays in your browser unless you copy it.
Frequently asked questions
How do I take the reaction time test?
Choose Mouse / touch or Space / Enter. Start a round in the large panel, wait until it turns green and says GO, then respond using the selected input. Complete five valid rounds. Early responses do not count; retry that round.
What happens if I leave the tab?
A round is cancelled if the page is hidden, the browser loses focus or focus leaves the test panel while waiting or ready. It is not added to the results. A round also expires after 10 seconds without a response. Start that round again when you are ready.
Can I use a keyboard?
Yes. Choose Space / Enter, then move focus to the test panel. Press Space or Enter to start, and press again only after GO appears. Holding a key does not repeatedly submit responses. Changing the input choice clears the current test so input methods are not mixed.
Why show both median and average?
The average is the sum of valid reaction times divided by their count. The median is the middle value after sorting; with an even number, it is the average of the two middle values. A single slow round can move the average more than the median. Best is the smallest valid result.
What is a good reaction time?
This tool does not assign a population percentile or a medical label. Results include your device, display and browser delays. Compare repeated tests using the same device and input method under similar conditions, rather than treating scores from different devices as directly equivalent.
How do I keep my results?
Choose Select results to reveal and select a text summary, then use your device's Copy command. It includes each valid round, its input method and the summary. Rounds are calculated in your browser and are not included in ToolNeko's analytics events. Reloading clears the test.
